A2Z Media Collective exists to preserve, restore, and reintroduce the work of Albany (Albert) Zeno Sr. — a Chicago muralist whose surreal, emotionally charged imagery confronted power, pollution, and survival long before those conversations went mainstream.
Emerging from the Hyde Park Mural Movement (1960s–1990s), Zeno’s work explored environmental injustice, Cold War fear, and the resilience of Black communities navigating systems designed to contain them. From the reinterpreted Alewives and Mercury Fish mural to previously unseen sketches, his layered symbolism tells stories of displacement, control, and endurance — twisted forms reflecting fractured cities, chained elements exposing the weight of inherited systems.
